WHAT TO WEAR THIS FALL

There’s nothing quite like the first snap of crisp, fall weather to bring a fashion girl out of a summer slump! Did you feel that last weekend? Cool mornings and warm afternoons, I’m ready! It got me thinking about this coming fall season; what exactly what will we be wearing this unprecedented year?

Fall clothes are my favorite. I love layering the deep colors and moody fabrics. After stripping it down in the summer heat, I typically like to up the glam in the fall in winter months with sparkle and shimmer. This year, however, continues to look a little different. With people continuing to work from home and restrict more of our lifestyle, I’ve narrowed it down to six trends to refresh your fall wardrobe, but with a practical seasonal spin.

ONE: Joggers

This might be my favorite of all the trends. Joggers are a refreshing, comfy take on a legging alternative. Pair them with cozy sweaters or sweatshirts, or layer them with tees and jackets. The new jogger comes in a variety of fabrics from denim to leather and looks chic with sneakers, loafers, and even heels if you find yourself feeling fancy!

TWO: Sweatshirts

The first image that pops in my head when I hear the word “sweatshirt” is the classic gray issue version as worn by Hanz and Franz of SNL fame. This leads me to believe the sweatshirt might need a new name or some new branding, because the sweatshirts of today are chic on steroids! (No offense to Hanz and Franz.) Sweatshirts have been elevated with graphics, embellishment, luxe fabrics and all sorts of details without losing their comfortable allure.

THREE: Relaxed Denim

It never fails that every few years or so denim trends swing from the straight and narrow to the wide and relaxed. Don’t panic if all you have are skinnies in your closet, those are still fine, but if you want an update, denim is decidedly becoming more relaxed. Personally, I can’t say I love this, but I think there are ways to freshen up your jeans wardrobe without sacrificing a flattering fit. I’m going to lean into the boyfriend and cropped flare styles for fall. Look for a fit that hugs through the thigh and relaxes as it passes the knee so that it doesn’t feel too baggy. These should skim the top of your ankle and look best with sneakers, booties, and heels.

FOUR: Short Cardigans

As jean styles loosen up, a more fitted silhouette is required on top. Too much fabric volume on top and bottom overwhelms most figures and frankly, isn’t the most flattering look. The short cardigan is a no brainer to layer with relaxed denim, bootcut and flare jeans, and joggers.

FIVE: The Huggie

Listen, nobody loves a statement earring more than my alter ego Glamanda, but I’ll also admit to the challenges of wearing a the big baubles with a mask! A huggie is a smaller style hoop that “hugs” close to the ear lobe. These were already on their way to becoming a jewelry darling with the trend of stacked earrings, crawlers and cuffs, but it’s certainly practical when wearing a mask on the daily!

SIX: City Sneakers

The sneaker has moved from fashion trend to wardrobe staple. Can I get a HALLELUJAH?! At this point, everyone should have a pair of what I call “city sneakers” in their closet. Not an athletic shoe that you would necessarily work out in, but one that’s comfy enough to run errands and chic enough to meet friends for drinks. Even if you have one or two options already in your closet, chances are you wear them enough to make it worth considering another pair!
